Auckland Museum School Holiday Programme
The Auckland Museum has programmes and workshops for kids during the school holidays.
For the September/October 2009 school holidays, they have the following programmes:
Dangerous Museum for Boys and Girls
Auckland Museum is DANGEROUS these school holidays. Take a dangerous trail around the museum and discover heroic tales of adventure and epic New Zealand battles. Uncover terrifying bugs, try your hand at knot tying, paper plane making and identifying ancient fossils.
- $5 per Dangerous Exploration Kit
- 10am to 5pm
- From Saturday September 26th to Sunday October 11th
- Suitable for children 6 years+
Night at Auckland Museum: Wonderland
The Hunt for the Spitfire Orchid
Come armed with a torch and your imagination to explore your Museum at night. The dimly lit galleries will be alive with Wonderland-inspired characters.
- 26 & 30 September, 4, 6 & 8 October from 6pm to 9pm
- Friday 30 October from 8pm to 11pm
- Adults/Children $20, Groups of 10 or more/Members $15 each. Booking fee applies.
- Includes entry into Wonderland: The Mystery of the Orchid.
Louise Hatchard: Orchid Craft The Art of Fine Stitching
With a background in advertising and design, Louise Hatchard runs her own popular blog, Prairie Mouse, in which she documents her daily craft activities, and is known for her ability to master any craft form, be it fabric design, felting, stitching or decorating. Louise will inform and entertain whilst demonstrating that creativity is achievable for anyone who puts their hand to it. (Please note – there will be additional costs for the craft kit: please enquire when making the booking.)

- This event is suitable for ages 12+
Lorraine Meissner: Orchid Craft The Art of Decoupage
Lorraine Meisner, who owns the company Creative Stuff, illustrates how to perfect the art of découpage – utilising coloured paper cut-outs to create new designs. This skill has gained enormous interest since the craft resurgence, and Lorraine will demonstrate, using orchids as the theme, just how fun and accessible découpage can be. (Please note – there will be additional costs for craft kit: please enquire when making the booking.)
