The New Zealand Playcentre Federation
The New Zealand Playcentre Federation has playcentres for children throughout New Zealand.
Kidzstuff has entries for most of the Playcentres in New Zealand as well as this general entry and are currently working our way through the listings to update details etc.
Playcentre is a co-operative where parents and whanau help; it is not like a daycare where you leave your kids with the teachers. The ratio is one adult to 5 children and in some places is one adult to 3 children. Sessions are 2.5 hours long.
Each centre offers a wide range of basic play areas at every session and will have children from birth to school age playing together with their parents and the other adults. Children choose where and how they play and the role of the adults is to support and extend the play, the ideas and the thinking.
